Why LIVING Is A Long-Term Process!

Before social media, when we wanted to share an opinion, we’d have to send it into the newspaper and hope they’d publish it. πŸ™

Before social media, if we wanted to share an opinion with someone we disagreed with, we’d have to write it down, place it in an envelope, and just maybe we’d think twice before mailing something we regretted. πŸ˜…

But now we have social media, which gives everyone the opportunity to spout judgments and condemnations instantaneously and anonymously without having to give a second thought. πŸ’¨

We no longer have to hear opposing viewpoints and can surround ourselves with only information which reinforces our worldview. We can stay inside our own political and ideological bubbles. πŸ’

Don’t get me wrong! With social media came faster ways to communicate with others, to share information, and connect with like-minded people we wouldn’t ever meet without it. πŸ‘

But it also brought with it a new set of problems: mental health issues, information overload, and an expectation that everything we can have in our lives should be instantaneous. 🎁

Thanks to the digital leashes in our palms, we’ve unintentionally primed our brains into patterns of behavior that produce LESS wellbeing and LESS fulfillment. πŸ™‹ ♂️

Happiness, and I mean a deep sense of happiness that’s sustained over time, one which Aristotle referred to as β€œeudaimonia”, comes from your commitments to the long-term. πŸ™Œ

πŸ“Œ Committing to a loving relationship is a long-term process, not a swipe-left on Tinder.

πŸ“Œ Maintaining a healthy diet is a long-term process, not a diet supplement.

πŸ“Œ Caring for your emotional well-being is a long-term process, not a Netflix binge.

And hey, I’ve had my share of short-term pleasures too, so I’m not pretending to be immune from their pull either! πŸ˜…

But truly, a life filled with a deep sense of meaning and purpose never comes from short-term pleasures, from the paths of least resistance. πŸ™Œ

Instead, it’s in the ongoing pursuit of doing things you deem worthwhile where you’re going to find it. ❀️
